Branch Meetings

Branch meetings are friendly and informal, and open to all members, and we often have interesting and inspiring guest speakers. We also welcome reports from different workplaces and suggestions for developing branch strategy.

Times, Dates and Venue

  • 6.00pm - Informal chat and light refressments
  • 6.30pm - Branch business
  • Dates - The 2nd Tuesday of the month, except for August and December when we hold social events instead.
  • Venue - Normally Unite HQ, 128 Theobalds Rd, London WC1X 8TN (map and travel directions).
  • We always try to use an accessible venue, and travel and carer costs can be met, but please let us know in advance if possible if you will need these (email here).

Motions

Branch policy is often decided by members who submit 'motions' for discussion. If these are agreed by the Branch, they become 'resolutions' which determine our future direction. If you would like to submit a motion, please send this at least one week in advance of the meeting (but preferrably earlier). Please see here to check previous resolutions and to see the typical format of a branch motion.

Branch Notices

Decisions about the branch strategy, the selection of branch officers, motions on policy, scrutiny of accounts and allocation of spending are all made democratically by the members attending branch meetings. The notice of branch meetings are sent by email the week before. If you do not receive these:

  1. Please check your 'Spam', 'Junk' and 'Bin' folders. We are aware that some email accounts automatically treat mass-mailings as junk mail. The emails will be from Suzanne Muna, Branch Secretary, managed by Mailchimp, so search using either of these terms to find the emails. If you find one, even if it is out of date, move it into the 'Inbox' so that future emails show up in your main folder.
  2. If there are no emails from the Branch Secretary, please check your Unite profile here to ensure that the correct email address is held on the system.
  3. If you are still having problems, please email here.
