Sanctuary Restructure

Sanctuary is going through a major 'operational' restructure which we already know will have a detrimental impact on some of our members if allowed to progress unchecked. Early investigations show that some frontline workers could lose up to £8,000 in basic pay alone. This is despite the vast surpluses amassed by Sanctuary, and their excessive Chief Executive pay of around £319,000 in 2015. This placed David Bennett among the highest paid chief executives in the sector (see more here). By contrast, the frontline staff delivering services on a daily basis are certainly not among the highest paid for the work they do.

How Sanctuary Members Can Respond to the Consultation

We understand that individual consultation meetings are taking place over the next few weeks. We appreciate that many members will not know what their rights are duing these meetings so please see the Acas Guide to consultation for more details. We have also devised a Covering letter and Crib Sheet which provides more information and incorporates both the requests and questions you might want to put to Sanctuary during your meeting.

Sanctuary has agreed that members can be accompanied to consultation meetings by colleagues. We would strongly advise members to take up this offer, maybe on a reciprocal arrangement for moral support.

Collective Consultation Response

While members can try to address concerns individually, we are far stronger and more likely to be heard when we stand and speak collectively. Unite is therefore intending to submit a collective response to the consultation. This will allow members to propose alternatives and raise concerns without being individually identified. Please therefore look through the proposals* and write to the dedicated Unite Sanctuary email address with any points you want included. Please send responses to unitesanctuary@gmail.com by close of play on Wednesday 7th July. The collective response will be circulated by email before being sent formally to Sanctuary.

Your Details

When we move house, change phone numbers, or get a new job, informing the union is not always our highest priority. However, these details are essential for us to communicate with you. Please therefore make sure we have the correct membership details for you by completing the tear off slip attached to the Covering letter and Crib Sheet.
