Pay claim for Peabody Care and Support

No pay rise for six years

Some of Peabody Housing staff in its Care and Support Directorate have received no pay increase for six years.

To make matters worse they get smaller pension contributions than other Peabody staff; just 4% instead of 10%. They get less annual leave and they have a longer working week.

Unacceptable

Unite in Peabody says that this is unacceptable. Everyone at Peabody should have the same basic pay and conditions.

Unite is submitting a claim including:

  • 7% pay increase
  • Enhancements to sick pay and Pension contributions to match the rest of Peabody.
  • Increase in holiday pay to match the rest of Peabody.

Senior Executives fat salaries

Peabody can afford to pay senior executives fat salaries. Chief Executive Brenden Sarsfield’s pay went up to £281,484 plus a £39,750 bonus payment last year.

The organisation has a turnover of £565 million and a surplus of £140 million. Who can doubt its ability to pat care and support staff more?

Decline in spending on wages

The organisations accounts show a £2 million decline in spending on wages.  It is the predominantly low paid workers in the Care and Support Directorate who have suffered most from this – that has to change.

Unite is also currently balloting Neighbourhood Managers in Peabody for strike action regarding a cuts driven restructure, see here.
