Branch Secretary in Unite EC Election Race!

Following the resignation of Lizanne Malone, there is a vacancy on the Executive Council for the London & Eastern territorial seat. Our Branch Secretary, Suzanne Muna, has agreed to seek nominations to become a candidate.

Suzanne said:

"As Branch Secretary, I have been involved in developing the branch as a real organising and fighting base. This has been evident in the recent high profile disputes which emerged at One Housing Group, The Homes and Communities Agency, Equinox, Look Ahead, Peabody, and St Mungos over pay and conditions, and the ‘I’m Bryan’ campaign to defend our sacked representative at OHG. Many of these disputes included sustained strike action as well as extensive campaigning. I have also been instrumental in initiating and developing the ‘Sector Standards’ campaign which aims to secure industry-wide collective bargaining across the housing and social care sector for the first time, ending the toxic effect on workers of the endless merry-go-round of service transfers.

"My experience as a workplace rep and housing campaigner has taught me that we do not need to convince members of the need to fight, just provide them with the encouragement and practical support they need. The London and Eastern Region, supported by the United Left, has a proud track record of fighting when workers are under attack, and I hope to build on this strength across our region and beyond if elected to the Executive."

Comments :

Great that Suz Muna is standing for the union we have a thorough representitive of members who will not fear to question. Is approachable a good listener and not frightened to argue her corner. It was to be found in many parts in the labour and trade union movement. Go forward with a 'Living Wage' for all, Quality Apprenticeships for our 'Youth' with a living wage. As I know you have pushed the High Standards in social care. Patrick Atkinson
