Branch Secretary :

Homelessness workers alliance

Low wages

A number of the members in our branch work for homelessness organisations and have reported years of below inflation pay rises and declining conditions at work. Members say if you ask any manager why wages are so low or why hostels are in a state of disrepair, and they will say that they have no choice - as if they spent more, they would be at risk of losing their contract to another organisation which is willing to undercut them.

The Homelessness Workers Alliance is fighting back against this by uniting workers from across organisations and unions to agree sector standards and set a joint pay claim for 22/23. If we can establish a joint pay scale and set of conditions across the homeless sector, our employers can no longer use competition as an excuse. Our branch is hosting the campaigns first public meeting on 16th September at 6-7pm via Zoom. If you work in homelessness and want to join the fight for better wages and conditions please come along. To read more about the campaign see here and click here for a full version of the flyer.
